Going Green
We decided the nursery should be called Green Start because our philosophy on green education is that it’s not only economical and conserving of resources but by its nature encourages children to love the earth. Children who are taught from infancy about conserving energy will grow into ethical, environmentally aware adults, therefore, we want to work in partnership with parents to encourage children to save their environment and introduce a learning, fun and satisfying programme to make environmental awareness and action an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of the nursery for both the children and for the staff and to engage the wider community.
The Eco Nursery programme will help to
- Improve the nursery’s environment
- Reduce litter & waste
- Reduce energy and water use
- Devise efficient ways of travelling to and from the nursery (i.e. new nursery bus)
- Promote healthy eating and lifestyles
- Build strong partnerships with a variety of community groups
- Develop national and international links
